Environmental issues drive scholarship winner

With a passion for the environment and a keen interest in biology, 2020 Agribusiness Australia scholarship winner, Ayla Christophers, intends to study a Bachelor of Agricultural Science at the University of Adelaide.

Agribusiness Australia scholarship is designed to help a young person to undertake tertiary studies in agriculture so they can pursue a career in the agricultural sector.

Ayla completed high school this year at Taminmin College in Humpty Doo, in the Northern Territory, which a 75-hectare mixed produce farm where students can learn about aquaculture, horticulture and agriculture.

"I grew up in South Australia, but moved to the Northern Territory three years ago," said Ayla.

"I have loved working on the school farm and my teachers have encouraged my interest in agriculture."

At university, Ayla would like to focus on plant science and biotechnology. When qualified, she intends to return to the NT to work in the area of food security.
