This has been a volatile year, with falls across most sectors of the investment markets.

Investment markets rise and fall. Over time, short-term market volatility smooths out and long-term trends surface. Most of us are in super for the long term. As we keep our accounts over our working lives (usually more than 10 years), it is important to focus on long term results.

Our MySuper investment option reflects its exposure to a mix of investment markets with a return of –4.74% for this year, the first negative return for Prime Super members in 13 years.

However, the long-term returns of the MySuper investment option are consistently strong. The three and 10-year returns are 4.20% p.a. and 8.28% p.a., above the industry median of 4.07% p.a. and 7.95% p.a. respectively.*

The Conservative option, with its higher allocation to cash, returned -0.68% for the financial year.  Positive returns were achieved by the Property option (6.42%), the Alternatives option (5.92%) the Cash option (0.19%), and the Income Focused option (0.25%), which favours investments in assets paying higher distributions and dividends.

See our Investments page for more information about our investment options and returns.
